Slang is one of those things that is constantly changing. As you can tell from slang that is popular now, computers have systemically influenced the slang used today. Whether you’re uploading a “selfie“, YOLO’ing, or spending your weekends “lurking” on websites, chances are you have some sort of slang for doing it.
However, as soon as certain words become popular, it seems like they immediately start their decline from usage. Some words may end up withstanding the test of time, but there’s no way of knowing which ones those will be. If you’re anything like me, you’ll end up still using words decades after their popularity has faded.
Below are some of the most popular slang from the 1990’s. Most have gone the way of the Hammer pants, but some are still hanging in there. Although possibly because of people like me who don’t know when to quit.

A phrase of exclamation after you’ve done something fly; or meaning “Ya bitch in yo face!”; often used after a “yo mamma” joke…”Yo mamma so fat she smoke turkey after sex! BOO YA!”

Dip’ or ‘Let’s Dip
verb…To leave. ex. ‘Hang up the phone and let’s dip.’ or… ‘See you guys later, we have to dip.’

1) Adj. Otherwise known as off the hook; unbelievable or different
oh yeah, that’s right!
adj./adv. old-fashioned, of the old style, etc. Usually a term of respect for the past greats of whatever discipline you’re talking about (e.g., Do it old school like Elvis)

Noun. Term used for police

Phrase used when someone gets in your face and speaks to make you look bad
A guy who thinks he’s fine, which is also known as a “busta”. He still lives with his mom and is always broke.

Used to show that something was there even when other weren’t aware of it or to show accomplishment of a task done. I.e. “Just did my homework for the weekend, whoop, there it is!”
A men’s Tank Top or Athletic shirt, like Bruce Willis always wears in movies. Derived from the show ‘Cops’ when all the people arrested for domestic violence were only wearing this type of shirt and boxer shorts.

Yadda Yadda Yadda
Phrase popularized by the sitcom “Seinfeld”. Often used to make a long story short, thus leaving out uncomfortable details. eg) we went to dinner, yadda yadda yadda, and then I never saw him again.
v. to steal or take from someone,to skillfully acquire, etc. Popularized by the Simpsons. Usually said while in the act of taking something to add comic effect.
