Just recently, President Obama released his birth certificate in order to put to rest one of the most pointless and trivial debates surrounding presidential qualifications since the Bill Clinton intern incident. With a dying economy, sky-rocketing gas prices, wars in the Middle East, a global warming crisis, party partisanship preventing any progress to be made (united we stand, divided we fall)…you’d think a birth certificate wouldn’t have much immediate cause for concern.
Well, think again, because this is American politics, where whatever you can find to steer the focus away from solving more important issues takes precedence.
So…President Obama has finally released the birth certificate clearly stating he was born in Hawaii. That should put the matter to rest, and so now we can move onto more important things, right? If you actually believe that, then you don’t watch enough news or politics. OF COURSE that’s not the end of it. Where would the logic be in that?
So…now we have people claiming, of course, that the birth certificate is a fake. Clearly this is some sort of right-wing agenda or the latest conspiracy theory. Right?
That’s what I thought right off the bat. Until I looked at some of the claims being made.
The RightNetwork, http://gatewaypundit.rightnetwork.com/2011/04/critics-obamas-latest-long-form-birth-certificate-is-a-fake/, points out exactly why people are claiming the birth certificate is a fake. I didn’t believe it myself until I went to the Whitehouse’s own website, http://www.whitehouse.gov/, and downloaded the official PDF version. I opened it in Illustrator, and sure enough, when you release the clipping mask and expand the layers, you see all the edits that have been made to the document. Kind of scary….
But I can’t help but wonder…It’s the President of the United States! The American Government! If they were going to forge such an important document and release it to the public, why would they be so extremely careless as to save the PDF file with the edited Illustrator layers still visible? Would the President secretly hire a 20-year old recent graphic design student to forge possibly one of the most important documents at the present moment? Because no expert would make such a careless mistake. But then if it was real, why would there be so many edits and layers to what is supposed to be just a scanned image of the original document? There would be no NEED for editing. It doesn’t make sense either way…
Personally, I believe this is EXACTLY what the government wants. They want us debating about trivial matters such as this in order to distract us from the real business at hand. It’s the magician’s oldest trick. And the media and politicians and everyone else feed into it, because they know it’s what holds our attention the most. A distracted public is much more easily managed and controlled than one that is paying attention to what is the reality of the situation. I don’t think anybody has an answer to the growing conflict in the Middle-East, the global warming crisis, the failing economy, etc. At least not one that the powers-that-be want to resort to. So they distract with partisan banter, constant/pointless ad-nauseum news stories and distractions like this so they don’t have to expose themselves or talk about the important issues with any cohesive plan.
But in the end, we don’t really have a choice. At least not right now, anyway. I guess when this whole thing unfolds you have to decide what you feel is more important.
Yes, it is in the Constitution that the President must be a natural-born citizen. But does it really matter where a person is born? Does that make him/her incapable of a job later on in life simply because their mother gave birth in one hospital instead of another? Regardless of where President Obama was born, he was raised in the United States, was educated here, and I think it’s safe to say he considers America his home and his allegiances lie with this country. Shouldn’t that logically be the most important thing?
The Constitution has been amended numerous times to change laws that weren’t working or just didn’t fit with our idea of what America should be. So I guess we have to decide which is more important. A rule that does not really have any bearing in today’s society regarding the intentions of a president, or following verbatim the current amended version of the Constitution, on which our country was founded.
That’s for you to decide.
In the mean time, we just have to watch the shell game being played out, and buy into the ruse.
